Name
Mutestorm
Gender
Tom
Age
19 moons
Clan
Iceclan
Rank
Medicine Cat
Description
Gentle. Open. Mutestorm carries himself with an air of welcome, a sense of “open arms” permeating the space around him. Despite his solitary nature, the tom has always been very approachable. His pelt is a splotched mess of off-white mixed with shadowy grey, almost like the pattern sunlight creates as it seeps through a leafy canopy. He's a bit smaller than other toms his age, but his lifestyle doesn't require a great deal of physical prowess. Though, that's not to say he's weak, either. His muscles are soft and gentle beneath his short, thick fur, remaining concealed until called upon. Mutestorm's expression can often be described as pensive, thoughtful- very introverted, as if there is always something of great importance gnawing at his mind. His eyes- once sparkling, warm, melted pools of gold- seem broken now; scarred. They'd died with his mentor, and, even though they've regained much of their glow, an emptiness still lurks beneath the striking golden hue.
Personality
Since the death of his mentor, this once loving tom has become shut off and detached. He allowed himself to slip into a state of utter numbness, too afraid to feel again- too terrified of the pain he was sure to feel- too scared to allow his heart to be broken a second time. It was in this state the young tom remained for a long time, however, the night he gained Wingedpaw as an apprentice changed something within him. He felt he'd been given another chance to feel again. Now, though he is still quite aloof and reclusive, Mutestorm is carefully allowing warmth to flow through his body, to create bonds with the other members of his clan instead of simply treating them like nameless bodies. He is loyal to his clan, but, being a Medicine Cat, knows that loyalty to all cats is his duty, as Starclan has willed. When there is pain, there no longer exists a rogue- a Glacierclan- an Arcticclan- a Snowclan. When there is suffering, there is only another life; another beating heart in desperate need of someone's aid.
History
Some cats believe that the life of a Medicine Cat is free of heartbreak and hardship, but Mutestorm's life is the perfect example of why this is not at all true. If anything, Medicine Cats must endure more pain than any other warrior of any other clan. The life of every cat lies nestled in their paws. Mutpaw understood this while still only an apprentice. Under the loving care and guidance of his mentor, Mutepaw became a cat worthy of her place. Spottedpelt- his guiding light, his everything.
Not many moons after taking on his name, a terrible moment arrived. While out gathering herbs with Spottedpelt, Mutestorm slipped and fell into a raging, black river. He nearly drowned, and would have passed on quickly to Starclan had Spottedpelt not gone in after him. She saved his life, only to take his place amongst the stars. Her death, having to watch the life drain from her glittering eyes, shattered Mutestorm into countless pieces. Then and there, he vowed to never let another cat die at his paws. Too soon, however, this vow was broken.
When ravens wreaked havoc upon Iceclan, they left in their wake a pile of bodies- of dead warriors and apprentices that Mutestorm hadn't had the chance to save. Clearly, Starclan had abandoned him. He lost faith in his sky-bound guardians, believing with absolute certainty that they were punishing him. Believing more than anything that Spottedpelt had left him alone. Since her death, he'd not dreamed or felt any sign of her, and her absence stung worse than a belly full of yarrow.
On a day after the raven attack, before Iceclan had fully recovered from the severe blow, Mutestorm was out gathering some much-needed herbs. Here, he ran into a young apprentice, named Wingedpaw. He knew her from around camp. The she-cat, feeling very unworthy and low on self-esteem, offered to help him gather herbs. He allowed this, realizing how much he'd isolated himself in the passed few moons. Not long into their searching, however, Wingedpaw fell into the river. Mutestorm saved them both, but her injuries kept them away from camp the rest of the night. It was then that Mutestorm felt himself returning to... himself, little by little, piece by piece. Wingedpaw remained his friend since that night, and one night followed him as he snuck from camp.
He'd gone to the Ice Mirror, unaware that he'd been followed . Wingedpaw shared a dream with him, and after the long-awaited reunion with Spottedpelt, Mutestorm became bonded with Wingedpaw as a mentor is to his apprentice- closer than any bond shared by any other. Faith restored and hope rekindled, Mutestorm clung to Wingedpaw's presence, determined to make things right by her.
Things went more or less smoothly for another couple of moons, however... something happened when the clans made their move for colder lands. Mutestorm disappeared for many moons, leaving no trace or sign. No cat caught wind of him, and many believed him to be lost to Starclan. Soon, however, he'd found his way home...
