So I lay my head back down-
Stretching in a small patch of sunlight, a small kit tumbles from the nursery tunnel, her orange pelt shimmering in the sun. Her mind wanders freely as she pads around the clearing. She stops at the base of the ice shard. That is where the leader, Wolfshard, would gather the clan for important meetings. Amberkit's thoughts trailed off into a dream, where, 1 moon from now, she would be standing beneath the ice shard with the name of Amberpaw, and the clan would be shouting her name.
And I lift my hands and pray-
A deep rumble interrupts Amberkit from her day dream. Looking around, she realizes that it was her stomach. Looking over toward the fresh kill pile towards the center of the clearing, she notes that the pile is looking low. 'If I were an apprentice,' Amberkit thought 'then the fresh kill pile would never be low!' Grumpily, she trotted over toward the pile and picks up a small mouse. Even with its small size, the mouse was much to big for Amberkit to eat on her own.
To be only yours, I pray to be only yours-
She would bring her unfinished prey back to the nursery, where she would give it to Willowwhisper, who had just birthed another set of kits. Maybe she would need it. Padding through the tunnels, Amberkits long whiskers trailed along one side of the stone wall. She followed her nose more so than her eyes. The scent of warm milk and the sound of mewling was not far away. Turning into the nursery, she also spotted Rowanpaw, a previous kit of Whillowwhisper.
I know now, you're my only hope.
She could smell the icy tundra on Rowanpaw's pelt, so she assumed that she had just raced back from the most recent dawn patrol. The whole clan had been very excited for this birth, since it was the first to come since the great move. Sadly, Amberkit had arrived here when the clan had first found their new territory. Her father had left her on the border, hoping that she would be found by the next patrol. She had been accepted into the clan but had never exactly fit in. After all, she was half kittypet. Amberkit dropped the prey at the entrance to the nursery and stared at the healthy kits. She could see the pride in Rowanpaw's eyes and fondly remembered her own siblings. Without disturbing the family, Amberkit left the prey at the entrance and quietly slunk to the back of the nursery, where she curled up and slept.
