Ashenpelt glared at the flowing water in front of him. From time to time, he caught a glimpse of a small, silver fish as its scales caught the afternoon sunlight. Oh, it looked beautiful, yes, and it also looked very, very tasty... His belly rumbled with a hungry growl, and his tail curled and un-curled itself as he waited for the fish to get closer. A fat, round flying bug leapt into the air in front of him. "What kind of bug is that?" he mewed to himself in wonder. "It sure is a big-- WOAH!" he jumped back in surprise as a rather large-sized fish jumped into the air and ate the bug in one snap of its long, narrow jaws which, Ashenpelt noted with a hint of fear, were lined with a row of very sharp-looking teeth.
As quickly as it had appeared, it disappeared, landing back into the water, and swimming away rapidly. Ashenpelt stood, absolutely flabbergasted, his mouth hanging open, and his fur was bristled, staring at the water. There was no sign of the big fish or the little one he had been planning on catching. He had a faint suspicion the larger fish had eaten the smaller one. He looked at his still-growling belly and sighed. No fish for him. He shook his head sadly, and sat by the water's edge, readying himself for another long wait for fish. As he settled himself down for the wait ahead, he thought he heard something moving behind him, and whirled around. "Who goes there?" he growled.

[/i] "It's alright, I'm a friend," a light voice said. Emerging from the cattails and other bushes that lined the creek, Mapleleaf walked silently closer to the water's edge. With a soft smile, she added, "I'm sorry for startling you. I didn't account for the wind being against you."With every step the young she-cat took, her long pelt flowed with her, the cream and white fur shining from a recent grooming. Her plumy tail curled easily around her front paws as she sat about a fox-length down the creek from Ashenpelt, and she took a moment to enjoy the sun on her face before she looked back at the tom with sparkling hazel eyes. "Do you mind if I join you?" she asked. "I was getting a bit bored hanging around camp. I hope there's enough fish swimming around for the both of us.
"Of course, if you'd rather hunt solo, I can go somewhere else," Mapleleaf said, her tone indicating that she wouldn't be offended if Ashenpelt wanted to be alone. "I don't want to intrude."[I've got a love and I know that it's all mine][/blockquote] "Pocketful of Sunshine," (c) Natasha Bedingfield[/i]

Ashenpelt relaxed. It was a clanmate. The fear he'd felt from encountering the huge fish had made him a little high-strung. He realized he had already unsheathed his claws, and he sheathed them hastily, hoping Mapleleaf did not notice. "No problem." he mewed. "I'm a bit jumpy today. A mouse could have ran by, and even it would've scared me." He paused and stared at her, somewhat mesmerized by her beautiful long fur as she walked into the sunlight. He snapped out of it as she spoke again. "Uh, sure! Feel free to join me!" he meowed. "I gotta be honest, I'm not having much luck myself." he looked back to the water flowing in front of him, scanning it once more for fish. He thought he may have caught a glimpse of another silver body swimming through the water, but he wasn't sure. "It gets pretty boring fishing on your own." he continued, a little distracted as he searched for fish. "Not much to do while you wait for something to swim by, and no one to talk to." he turned back to her and smiled. "So, like I said before, feel free to join me!"
