Long Shadows! (warning: spoilers!)

First of all, what do you all think of the new book, Long Shadows? I thought the books were getting sort of... weird, but after finishing this book I'm actually really liking it. :] Okay, below I two questions to ask you guys. But if you haven't read the book yet then be warned, the below questions contain spoilers!

#1. Who do you think are Jayfeather, Lionblaze, and Hollyleaf's parents?

Hm, well when the series first came out I was sort of... Wondering how a dark brown tabby and an orange tabby could produce a dark gray and silvery-gray kitten. xD Now, I'm almost thinking... Maybe their parents are Crowfeather and Leafpool? I mean, it makes sense, don't you think? The gray kittens obviously got their coloring from Crowfeather, and Lionblaze got his tabby coloring from Fireheart & Sandstorm. So they are still 'kin of your kin.' It also makes sense why Squirrelflight would keep that a secret, no?

#2. Who do you think murdered Ashfur?

I think it was probably Squirrelflight. I mean, both her and Ashfur dissapeared before the Gathering, and when she came back she was covered in mud. Maybe she rolled in mud to cover up the blood on her pelt? Also she was (so far) the only one to REALLY have a good motivation. -shrugs- Then again, in most murder cases the person you think most likely did it, didn't do it. What's your opinions?

mm. I agree, with you about the second one, but think of this:
How would Leafpool be able to hide her kitting? I mean, her ClanMates are bound to notice her stomach growing...

True, but if Squirrelflight's stomach wasn't growing, how'd she convince them she was pregnant, hm? ;]

... maybe she ate a lot more then usual? Who knows, she could have been pregnant with still borns at that time?

Well, since leafpool is the medicine cat she could have told the clan that squirrelflight was pregnant and noone would doubt her. I've always thought that leafpool was mother of at least 2 of the kits, so yeah, no no surprise if she is. And if i'm not wrong I heard that the fur color of cats do not always follow their parents color, but there is a high chance that their pelts would come out similar to their grandparents, or anyone from their ancestral line. As I remember, Crowfeather's mother, Ashfoot is a "beautiful gray she-cat with enormous blue eyes.". Mix it up a little with our dear tabby Leafpool and taadaah, Jaypaw xD

Yeah damp, I was going to mention that but forget. Anyway, even if the kits did get their grandparents heritage it wouldn't make sense for them to be Squirrelflight & Brambleclaw's kits, since as far back as we know none of their parents had gray fur. So yes, Crowfeather & Leafpool make sense. Um, Also I was thinking of this. Remember when Sol said something along the lines of "How do you know you are the three?" Or something like that?

I was thinking, and if, let's say, Jayfeather, Lionblaze, and Hollyleaf aren't the kin of Firestar. Maybe the prophecy was talking about Tigerstar? His kin's kin. So how do we know for sure the prophecy isn't talking about Tawnypelt's three kits? -dramatic music- xD

but skywatcher told firestar "kin of your kin", so i think theres no way it could be tawnypelt's. I havent gone anywhere past sol so pardon me for that xD

I hated Long Shadows. ._. It had more plot holes than any of the other books, and the cats acted more like people than any previous book.

1) It's gotta be Leafpool and Crowfeather, if they are indeed the three; I doubt Vicky would make them Cloudtail and Daisy's, although that would be infinitely more awesome.

2) It won't be Squirrelflight. The Erins wouldn't make their precious Mary-Sue MC ebil or not-nice in any way. >:( Alas, characterization continues to go downhill.

I've thought that they were Tawnypelts kits since the moment they were born. And technically, if you think of it in human way, the three shadowclan kits are technically Firestars kin, if Bramblepaw is his daughters mate, and Tawnypelt is Brambleclaws sister.

I haven't read the book but a note on genetics:
If both parents of a kit have a heterozygous color gene, there is a 25% possibility that the kit with get both recessives and not have a color remotely similar to their parents. I don't know much about kitty genetics, but let's say that grey is a recessive gene and that Squirrelflight and Brambleclaw are both Gg.

genotype: 50% Gg, 25% GG, 25% gg
pheotype: 75 % not gray, 25 % gray

Wheras Leafpool and Crowfeather might be Gg and gg, respectively:

phenotype: 50% not gray, 50% gray

So it seems genetically more likely to be Leafpool and Crowfeather's kits.
Although I mainly just posted because I get a kick out of Punnet's squares. XD

It's genetically impossible on several levels for Leafpool and Squirrelflight to be the product of FireXSand. XD

guys... have you ever heard of FICTION!? It doesn't have to follow any rules! It's not real! lol. Even if there may be a few plot flaws, like the whole "how was squirelflight pregnant thing" but still!

Relax Icey, we're just commenting. xD And Leafpool could be a kitten of Fire x Sand; Princess was a tabby with white paws & chest, meaning Firestar's mother was a tabby. Her genetics would of been in Firestar, thus could of showed in Leafpool. And Squirrelflight... Is like her mother, so yeah.
